A restricted attribute is an Attribute that has more restricted visibility permissions than public attributes. Most commonly, you'd make an attribute restricted if it's something you don't want everyone to see, such as a salary, a performance review score, or a private cell phone number.
By default:
All users can view restricted attributes on their own profiles.
Managers can view restricted attributes for all of their direct and indirect reports.
These permissions can be narrowed or widened if you'd like to change how restricted attributes are accessed. For example, you may want to give senior leadership access to restricted attributes for the whole organization. Click here to learn more about customizing permissions.
Making an Attribute Restricted
When creating or editing an attribute, you may now designate the attribute to be Public or Restricted.
Public attributes are visible on all profiles in which the user has access to view
Restricted attributes are only visible on profiles (and org chart cards, etc) in which the user has the "View Restricted Attributes" permission.
