Sift's Org Chart is helpful in many ways. It allows you to see a bird's-eye-view of your entire organization, and to see how you fit within it! With flexible viewing options and customizable card displays, you can tailor your org chart experience to show exactly what you need to see.
Getting there
To get to the Org Chart, you can either click on Org Chart at the top of your main Sift screen, or when on someone's Sift profile, click on the Org Chart button towards the top.
Navigating the Org Chart
When you first arrive to the Org Chart it will be centered on one of two things; your position, or if you navigated to the Org Chart from someone else's profile, their position.
You can click and drag around on the org chart, or by using the mini map located in the bottom right of the screen.
Up towards the top of the screen, you will notice there are a handful of options:
Add/Edit - Make edits or changes to yourself or individuals through the options in this menu (this option may not always appear depending on your organization's settings.)
Filters - Filter out groups of individuals in your organization to create a tailored org chart view.
Search - Search for a person in your organization to bring you right to their position in the org chart.
Highlight By** - Color-code your org chart by an attribute such as department, office location, remote work status, or anything else.
Print – Generate a printable view of the area you're currently viewing. In Simple View, you can now access an advanced dialog to select multiple starting leaders via autocomplete search and export up to your entire org chart.
Export – Export your org chart in various formats (Image, PDF, or SVG). For large-scale reporting in Simple View, use the new Previous Downloads tab within the export dialog to redownload previously generated files without needing to wait for a new export.
Card Content - Choose from different card styles and customize which attributes appear on your org chart cards. You can select from traditional card layouts or try the new flexible card design that allows for more customization options
Simple/Advanced View - Switch to Simple View to see a more condensed version of the org chart with only one level. Use advanced view for a more wholistic zoomable and pannable version with all features available. Note: Multi-leader printing and high-capacity exports are exclusively available in Simple View.
Settings - Select your Sort By, change your orientation and toggle on Dotted Line Report Visibility to customize your org chart view.
Full Screen - Click this icon to be taken to a full-screen view of the org chart
Print - Generate a printable single-page view of the area you're currently viewing
Export - Export the full canvas of your org chart in various formats. Image formats for presentations, PDF for general sharing and printing, or SVG for editing.
More (...) - Change your org chart's orientation, share a link, or view this article!
** - The "Highlight By" feature must be enabled and configured by a Sift administrator before it appears.
Org Nodes
In addition to people, your org chart may include org nodes which are standalone nodes that represent organizational groupings like departments or divisions. These are created using Sift Pages and appear directly within the org chart alongside your people cards.
Org nodes give you a clearer picture of how your organization is structured, especially when departments or teams need to be represented visually without being tied to a single person. If your organization uses Pages for things like departments, you may see these nodes appear automatically based on how your pages and hierarchy relationships are set up.
For more information on creating and managing the pages behind org nodes, see Managing a Page Type and Creating Pages.
Card Types and Customization
Your org chart offers flexible card display options to help you see the information that matters most:
Classic Cards: A compact card that displays core information
Extended Cards: A redesigned card style that provides more customization options for the information displayed. Like traditional cards, these can also be used in both simple and advanced views, giving you even more control over what attributes appear on each card.
Both card types can be customized through the Card Content button in the toolbar, allowing you to create a more condensed or expanded view depending on your needs. This flexibility means you can tailor your org chart to show exactly the information that's most relevant for your current task or viewing preference.
Some custom attributes are restricted and their visibility is limited to the permissions set for that attribute. A restricted attribute will have an indicator next to it to show you that it's private.
Your card content attributes are set by your organization administrators. If you are an admin and want to learn more about setting up your organization’s card content options, visit this article.
Working with Individual Cards
Click the three dot icon on the bottom right of an org chart card to see further view options
Expand All Reports - Expand all direct and indirect reports underneath a leader immediately, without needing to manually expand multiple levels.
Start From Here - Make the current card the top of the visible org chart to isolate certain areas of your organization. Useful for viewing or exporting an org chart of a specific department or team. This is also the quickest way to set your primary leader before opening the Print dialog to add additional leaders for a multi-department export.
Exclude This Person - Hide this card from your view if you're wanting to cater an export to a specific use case.
Search For All Reports - Want to get a broader view of everyone who reports to a senior level leader? Use this option to perform a Sift search, which will allow you to further filter the result and find who you're looking for.
Edit Dotted Line Relationship - Need to add a dotted line relationship or make changes to an existing one? Use this option to view, add or edit your dotted line relationship or someone else's.
Printing/Exporting Large Org Charts
Have a larger org chart you want to print or export? Head over to the simple view and click the print icon, then select "Print Multiple Leaders". This experience will generate a multi-page PDF for easier viewing of larger org charts.
Note: By default, this is only available to administrative users. To make this available to all users, go to the "Feature Management -> Org Chart" settings in the Admin Dashboard.
Choose your options:
Starting Leader: Choose a leader from whom to start the export
Levels to Print: By default, we'll print the entire org chart split into multiple pages for everyone below the starting leader you select. Choose an option here if you'd like to limit the number of hierarchy levels you print.
Generating the export: Click the "Generate" button to start your export. Depending on the size of the org chart, this may take some time. We'll send you a notification when the download is complete.
Accessing History: To save time, check the Previous Downloads tab inside the print dialog to see if a recent version of your report is already available for download.
